About Katie

I’m a busy mother of three (Lucas, ten, India, eight and Leo, four). I’ve always practised yoga and I love the way it helps me feel calm, relaxed and nurtured – all essential when you’re a mother!

I began Yoga Babes after the birth of Lucas because I wanted other mums to experience yoga and the benefits it can bring to you and your family. As with parenting, my yoga path has been a journey.

It’s been exhilarating, challenging, rewarding, difficult and very special - very much like motherhood!

After  I gave birth to Lucas (now ten) I developed Post Natal Anxiety and it was only through Yoga and researching and writing my book: Mother Me – a mum’s guide to  balance, wellbeing and harmony, that I managed to get myself back on track – and actually enjoy my baby and my life.

Since then I’ve developed two relaxation CDs and two Yoga DVDs to help you (and your family!) feel nurtured, calm and relaxed too!

My background

Before working full-time as a yoga teacher, I was a journalist based in the UK. I worked on a daily newspaper and national weekly magazine – so I’ve experienced stress! While working, I spent my free time following my passion and I qualified as an aerobics instructor in 1994 (I only enjoyed the relaxation part!), as a massage instructor in 1995, (this was far more restful!), and I attended many yoga workshops and events.

I then spent several months adventuring and soul searching through South East Asia, before settling in Australia.

Qualifications

1994 – aerobics instructor (RSA – teaching of exercise to music)

1995 – Diploma in Anatomy, physiology and body massage (ITEC)

200- 2001 – YOGA Teacher Training course diploma – (IYTA)

2002 –  pregnancy massage therapist (Nature Care college),

2002  – Certified Infant Massage Instructor (IMA)

2009 – Certified birth doula education  (Optimum Birth)

I’m now the NSW State representative for Infant Massage Australia and the co-trainer of the NSW IMA professional training program. I also lecture on the IYTA Yoga Teachers’ training course and the IYTA’s Diploma of Pre and Post Natal Yoga Teacher Training course.

My blogs appear on Parenting Australia and Yummy Bubby and I write regularly for a variety of magazines including That’s Life, Coles, Australian Yoga Journal and Wellbeing.

I’ve written a book (Mother Me – a mum’s guide to balance, wellbeing and harmony – a unique book for every mother who feels overwhelmed and underappreciated).
